Working principles

We hold to the same six principles in everything we do.

We apply the same standard with our clients, our partners and everyone we work with. The principles below bring the commitments we make in our work together in one place.

  1. We understand first.

We do not produce a solution before the problem is defined correctly.

  2. We speak with evidence.

We judge results by evidence, not assumption; we do not describe a contribution we have not measured.

  3. We speak plainly.

We define scope, cost and expectations openly, and we also say which solution will not help.

  4. We build simple, transferable systems.

We add no needless complexity, and we hand systems over so they keep working after we step back.

  5. We respect people and their data.

Technology serves people; every role sees only as much information as its responsibility requires.

  6. We measure, learn and improve.

We treat every implementation as a living system and improve it in light of its results.

Method

The principles describe how we behave; the method describes the order in which we work.

  1. We understand.

We do not produce a solution before the problem is defined correctly.

  2. We design.

We treat people, processes, knowledge and technology within one system.

  3. We build.

We turn the idea into something that runs and can be managed.

  4. We measure.

We judge results by evidence, not assumption.

  5. We learn and improve.

We treat every implementation as a living system.
